My journey led me to the charming town of Jwalamukhi, a mere 30 kilometers from the vibrant city of Dharamshala. The temple, located on a gentle hill, welcomed me with open arms, surrounded by the serene beauty of the Dhauladhar Range. History

The legend of the Jwalamukhi Temple is nothing short of mesmerizing, rooted in the ancient myths passed down through generations.

Centuries ago, the demon king Raja Bhuri Singh incurred the wrath of the powerful goddess Jwalamukhi Devi. To respond to this offense, the goddess manifested herself as an everlasting, burning flame at this very location, earning the name Jwala (flame) Mukhi (mouth). This eternal flame was enshrined in a natural rock chamber, and it has flickered and danced with fiery energy ever since.

The legend deepens as the temple is known for housing nine flames, each representing a distinct goddess, including Mahakali, Chandi, Hinglaj, and Annapurna. These flames are believed to embody the divine powers of the goddesses/Devis and are worshipped with utmost devotion by the faithful.
