The Brijeshwari Temple, also called Kangra Devi Temple, is in Kangra, a lovely town near Dharamshala, just 30 minutes away.  Shaktipeeth Shri Bajreshwari Devi Temple is just 1.7 km (5 mins) away from the main Kangra bus stand, towards the market.

Once upon a time, the heavens were under the tyrannical rule of the mighty demon kings, Shumbha and Nishumbha. The gods, oppressed and desperate, decided it was time to put an end to this reign of terror.

To achieve this, they set out on a sacred endeavor. Each god chipped in a part of their celestial energy to create a being of unparalleled strength and power – Goddess Durga. She emerged from this cosmic collaboration as a radiant and fierce warrior, ready to take on any challenge.

What followed was an epic showdown of immense proportions. Goddess Durga confronted the demon kings and their formidable army in a battle that lasted an astounding nine days and nights. Her unwavering determination and unmatched prowess led to a triumphant victory over the demons. People now celebrate this remarkable conquest with great fervor and devotion during the annual festival of Navratri.

However, this is where the narrative becomes even more captivating. After her victorious battle, Goddess Durga chose the serene Kangra Valley as her divine abode. In this picturesque setting, they erected the Brajeshwari Temple in her honor. This temple is a beautiful tribute to her win and a symbol of her divine presence in the Kangra region.
