Gaj River (Himachal Pradesh)

Let’s know a little about the Gaj River that flows outside our farm. This river is also known as Gaj Khad. Gaj river is a tributary of river Beas.

Beginning its journey as a modest stream on the southern inclines of the Dhauladhar Range, in Kangra District, Himachal Pradesh, this watercourse eventually converges with the Beas River shortly before reaching the Maharana Pratap Sagar in Kangra. Gaj River is situated near the localities Ghamrur and Katrah. Ghamrur village is in Jaswan tehsil of Kangra district in Himachal Pradesh, India, and Katrah Khas village in Fatehpur tehsil of Kangra district in Himachal Pradesh, India.

There’s a hydro project also on this river near our farm, with the name of Gaj Power. The power plant was established in 1996 with an installed capacity of 10.5 MW. It falls under the Small hydroelectric project category, as its capacity ranges between 3 MW and 25 MW. The construction of the power plant has been completed, and it is currently operational, generating electricity.
